“When I got the remix back from Dan I was blown away! I was captivated from beginning to end - the elements; the layers. It was clear that is was more than just a remix. He has included a handful of sound design elements and techniques, but they’re still dark and twisted, and emotive. I really wanted to give my audience something different, and I felt that releasing both versions was the best way for everyone to get the full 'Birds' experience.” - Maddison Wilson

Each month, its Artist's Spotlight series highlights the success of its emerging producers and composers and I'm honoured to be featured this October.

Maddison Wilson announces 'Birds'

After an extremely successful launch for her single Higherearlier this year, Melbourne pop songstress Maddison Wilson has announced the release of her brand new single, Birds, set for October 30.

Birds is a strong piano-ballad, with a vulnerable, yet resilient vocal from Wilson. It has full intention to shatter your emotional shields, and expose your inner psyche for recovery. However, Birds does not present optimism, but movement. Offering the thought that we are not meant to stay hidden behind sadness, nor where we can only see “so far wide".

The physical release of Birds will feature a remix I recently produced, which I'm very much looking forward to sharing with the world. Stay tuned!

Edinburgh Festival Fringe

The last (and first) time I visited Edinburgh my time to appreciate the city was limited to a brisk day trip, which is why I'm excited to return for an entire week this August. Better still, I'll be part of a great London-produced independent production Beneath The Dark as Sound Designer.

Beneath The Dark plays at Paradise in Augustines, August 4th-9th. If you're heading to the festival this year, come by and say hi!

'Breakdown' selected for Snake Alley Festival

Last year I worked on short film 'Breakdown', directed by Gary Glenn. Written by - and starring Christian Heath along co-star Laura Deam, the film was shot over two days in the Australian outback in Victoria. 'Breakdown', has just been accepted into the 2014 Snake Alley Festival of Film in Iowa, USA. The festival runs June 4th-7th. It's great news as it was one of the most enjoyable production I've been a part of. See the official poster for the film below. If you happen to stop by the festival, I hope you enjoy it!

Happy Birthday Bruce Swedien!

Last week, 5-time Grammy Award winner - the legendary recording and mix engineer Bruce Swedien turned 80. To celebrate, some 29 engineers and artists from around the world collaborated on a musical tribute. Having personally met and learned from Bruce in 2009, let being influenced and touched by his work since I was a child, I couldn't give up the chance to be involved in the project. It was a perfect opportunity to say thank you and celebrate his 80th, along with his wife Bea, who also celebrates her 80th this year. Watch the video for 'Let It Bea: 80 Years of Groove' below:

Special thanks to Martin Kantola of Nordic Audio Labs for leading the troops!

Remix for Age of Giants

Apartment's former frontman David Caggiari has assembled another force of international musicians. Fresh out of Brussels, Age of Giants has released their debut album The Wolves of Winter. I've had the pleasure and honour to remix 'Cold In The Water', which has been the first promotional feature from the album. Cold In The Water (Dan Villalobos Remix) is available on Bandcamp. Enjoy!

VESSEL comes home to Melbourne.

'VESSEL' (Adam Ciancio) is getting its premiere in Melbourne, where it was shot over a year ago. Already having been selected for Sci-Fi London and Fantasia international film festivals, the feature film is set to premiere in Australia at Melbourne's Palace Theatre Como on September 18th.

I'm yet to watch the completed film, so am very much looking forward to seeing it on the big screen (and with big sound!). Exciting!

Maddison Wilson - The Fight (update)

The full single is finally out NOW! Earlier this year, The Fight was released as a stand-alone song. Having made an impact on the Triple J Unearthed charts online, two new songs have been completed and added to the full release of the single: Shadow Light and White Light - both of which are spellbindingly good.

Grab yourself a digital copy through iTunes or the limited edition CD single from Maddison's official website.

Why Justin Timberlake’s New Album Matters.

Why Justin Timberlake’s New Album Matters.

The 20/20 Experience is completing its fourth week of life, having already spent its initial three on top of the charts - the first since Taylor Swift’s Red from late last year. Since figures were collected last weekend, Justin Timberlake’s long awaited album hovers comfortably around 2 million in sales. Maybe more. In its first week, 968,000 copies were sold in the US alone (516,000 of them CDs), with iTunes clocking around 580,000 worldwide sales, making it the fastest-selling album to date on Apple’s iTunes Store. In an era where the digital piracy is the norm, that’s no easy feat.
